309 cases of coronavirus have been reported in the country today.
The results from day before yesterday indicated that the numbers reported from Colombo was in decline; however, 147 cases have been reported in Colombo yesterday.
Chief Epidemiologist Dr Sudath Samaraweera also confirmed today, that a returnee from the United Kingdom had tested positive for the new variant of the virus, which is known to have a greater rate of transmission.
It was also announced today that rapid antigen tests will be conducted on those travelling out of Colombo over the Thai Pongal holidays.
