The Court of Appeal issued an order dismissing the indictments served against Minister Janaka Bandara Tennakoon. The indictments filed by the Attorney General in 2015 alleged that the Minister was involved in murder in 1999.
Attorney’s of Minister Tennakoon had filed a Writ Petition with the Court of Appeal in 2016 urging the court to order the dismissal of the indictments filed by the Attorney General.
Commenting to Capital News, Minister Tennakoon’s son Premitha Bandara Tennakoon MP for the Matale District stated that, “this was a politically motivated case, there has never been a case as such filed against anyone in Sri Lanka in the past. Further, there are two cases in the High Court pertaining to one incident. They arrested and jailed Minister Janaka Bandara Tennakoon with no proper remand order in the case. We filed a case in the Court of Appeal in 2016 and it has taken four years for justice to be done.” The order dismissing the indictments was issued by the President of the Court of Appeal A.H.M Nawaz and Sobitha Rajakaruna.
